Wavesfactory Re-Esser is the next generation of de-essing for Windows — a complete reimagining of what a de-esser can be. Rather than crudely cutting frequencies when a threshold is crossed like traditional de-essers, Re-Esser uses an intelligent separation system to split your audio into two independent layers — sibilance and tonal — and lets you process each one independently with surgical precision. The result is de-essing that is so transparent it sounds completely natural — praised by Grammy-winning producers as sounding like it was never processed at all. The latest version is v1.0.3 (May 7, 2026) which adds a realtime EQ spectrum analyzer and a brand new formant shifting effect. Available in VST, VST3, and AAX formats for Windows — and also macOS with AU support. A free demo version is available.

What Is Re-Esser?
Traditional de-essers work by detecting when a sibilant frequency crosses a threshold and attenuating the entire signal in that band — an approach that by definition sacrifices tonal content alongside the sibilance you wanted to remove. Re-Esser completely changes this approach. Its detection system is so accurate it separates the sibilant content from the tonal content before any processing happens — meaning you can reduce harshness without touching the tone, boost top-end sparkle without reintroducing harshness, compress only the sibilant layer while leaving the tonal layer untouched, or route completely different effects chains to each independent layer.
What Re-Esser Can Do
✂️
Compress Sibilance Only
Compress the sibilant layer independently without touching the tonal content — pure sibilance control with no tonal side effects on Windows.
🌟
Boost Top-End Without Harshness
Enhance high-frequency sparkle on the tonal layer while keeping sibilance in check — add air and presence without triggering harshness on Windows.
🔁
Re-Essing — Add Sibilance
Boost sibilance on vocals that have been over-de-essed or recorded dull — restore natural presence and articulation to lifeless vocals on Windows.
🌊
Apply Reverb to Tonal Layer Only
Apply reverb or spatial effects exclusively to the tonal layer — wet tonal content with dry sibilance for a uniquely natural result on Windows.
🎤
Dialogue Clarity
Keep speech intelligible and natural for broadcast, podcast, and film work — eliminate whistling S sounds and lisp-like artefacts on Windows.
🔌
3rd-Party Plugin Routing
Route external third-party plugins into each independent layer — use your favorite compressors, EQs, and effects per band on Windows.
🔗
Multi-Instance Grouping
Synchronize sibilance detection across multiple Re-Esser instances — split tonal and sibilant layers to separate DAW tracks on Windows.
🎵
Tonal Pitch Shifting
Pitch-shift only the tonal component while keeping natural sibilance intact — creative vocal pitch manipulation without artefacts on Windows.

What Artists Are Saying
“Re-Esser is so incredibly natural-sounding, it doesn’t feel processed at all, whether de-essing or re-essing. The EQ is especially useful on vocals.”
Dom Morley
Grammy-winning Producer/Engineer — Amy Winehouse, Adele, Sting
“Re-Esser operates transparently. It does exactly what it says — tames harsh sibilance while keeping the integrity of the original performance completely intact.”
DeLaVanta ‘Del’ Tabor
Re-recording Mixer — Film & Broadcast

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Wavesfactory Re-Esser for Windows? ▾
Wavesfactory Re-Esser is a next-generation de-esser plugin for Windows that reimagines vocal sibilance control by intelligently separating sibilant content from tonal content into two independent layers — each of which can be processed separately with 16 built-in studio effects including Chorus, Compressor (VCA), Convolution Reverb, Delay, Enhancer (based on Spectre), 5-band EQ with 7 filter types, Flanger, Limiter, Lo-Fi, Phaser, Pitch Shifter with Formant Shifting, Reverb, Saturation, Stereo Tools, Tremolo, and Vibrato. The latest version is v1.0.3 (May 7, 2026) which adds a realtime EQ spectrum analyzer and formant shifting effect. Available in VST, VST3, and AAX (64-bit) for Windows. Also supports macOS (VST, VST3, AAX, AU — Intel + Apple M1 native). 0-latency capable, all sample rates supported, resizable UI.
How is Re-Esser different from a traditional de-esser on Windows? ▾
Traditional de-essers work by monitoring a sibilance frequency band and attenuating the entire signal in that band whenever the level crosses a threshold — this necessarily removes tonal content alongside the sibilance, degrading the natural sound of the vocal. Re-Esser completely abandons this approach. Its detection system is so accurate it separates the sibilant and tonal layers before any processing happens. This means you can reduce harshness without touching the tone at all, boost top-end sparkle on the tonal layer without reintroducing harshness, compress sibilance with a VCA compressor while leaving the tonal layer completely untouched, or apply reverb exclusively to the tonal layer. The result is vocal processing that Grammy-winning engineers describe as sounding completely natural — like it was never processed at all.
What’s new in Re-Esser v1.0.3? ▾
Re-Esser v1.0.3 was released on May 7, 2026 and introduces two major new features — a realtime EQ spectrum analyzer displayed directly on the EQ graph for visual frequency monitoring, and a new formant shifting effect that allows you to shift the formants of the tonal layer independently. The update also improves the EQ workflow by showing filter values in real time while dragging filter dots, and fixes an occasional false-flag user ban issue. The update is free for all existing Re-Esser users.
